and then she answered
just as he responded
At last he said, " Let's move on."
She said, " It's such a small thing."
He said, " I can't even recall how
and why we started arguing."
He put her responses in his pocket
She put his responses in her pocket
Someday they would be taken out,
shaken, sprinkled with salt
and used again and again
until all the markers came down
and their pockets emptied
