sent out a poem
somewhere west of the Mississippi
sent out a story
without a stamp or envelope
just traveling through space
used to get back a response
in an envelope licked shut
watched my poem spread its words
on cream colored paper
before I slit that envelope open
now I open a response
sent through the air
with no time to dream before
I know the answer
no time to inhale
