If and Then

.
Then Gideon said to God,
"Do not be angry with me.
Let me just make one more request.
Allow me one more test with the fleece,
but this time make the fleece dry
and let the ground be covered with dew.
— Judges: 6:39

When Gideon said to God
if this happens then
I'll know what goes down,
I'll know what you want from me
He didn't worry about turning
to stone or becoming mute
He laid his fleece on a threshing floor
God will need to answer me
with a paper towel
on the kitchen floor
God, I'll say, I got this one prayer,
been saying it for thirty years
If you want me to practice
patience and continue,
then give me a sign
or release me from
thinking you're answering
