A Misunderstanding

words we hear
filter through our past,
take on the patina
of other words

they transform into
words not meant

we can't hear
unless we release
old versions

Eyes fly over the lines in a book or a magazine.Hardly ever do I read what the writer means, unless I'm totally immersed in the text. Otherwise my brain takes it's own route. Often I stop and go back to read what is said instead of what my archives dictate.
Nice to find a puzzling experience so well worded.
