The Release of Winter
I set paper-white bulbs into
one dollar glass jars
imprinted with decals of lemons
and the word juice in bold script
under the weight
of a few flowers their stems
sag and lose hope,
stoop down to view
their roots—
now crocuses
poke out of snow patches,
part the brown grass, insist
on a display of bravado
a revival
preachers
promising
renewal
