Waking Up to...
Imagine a change of paradigms. Instead of people demonizing gay and lesbian marriage, voters in several states voted to be inclusive.it's only a matter of time before all married people will have equal federal rights.
So much is semantics.Suppose all marriages were called Civil Unions? It is afterall the state that declares a union legal and binding.

I'd vote for 'civil unions' — gladly! Some people can't even be civil to their partner. Truly, I'm happy to see shifts in this paradigm and hope that rich white guys can go with the flow.
Change happens, eh?
All conservatives aren't rich white guys and all conservatives aren't against "civil unions" of any type. I'm a conservative poor white open-minded working woman with a very diverse family.
All conservatives don't sit around and watch Fox News all day - some actually spend spare time instead growing and then giving extra garden produce to a church who provides food for homeless or making quilts for those in need of warmth.
You'd be surprised, indeed, if you looked beyond the stereotypes and into people's hearts and minds.
Cathy,
I wasn't demonizing all conservatives. I know I number of people who call themselves liberals and aren't liberal when it comes to looking at people who don't believe exactly the way they do.
I hope that I look behind the stereotypes. Nothing in what I said points a finger at all of anything. I want to be looked at for who I am and what's in my heart and I hope that I give that same respect to other people.
Linda
Linda, I do think you look beyond the stereotypes. But I think one of your frequent commenters does do a little "demonizing" so I thought it was time to stick up for some of us quiet conservatives!
Actually, I don't think it really matters what labels people wear it's how they practice what they believe. I've got to respect anyone who lives what they believe even if their beliefs do not agree with mine.
(So maybe I'm a libertarian ;-)
