Learning a New Language

Listen
to the way the wind
carries my words,
spins them,
brushing away husks—
then unwraps,
lays bare, and
scrapes away
the dried up coverings
to what I want to say

Let's meet over coffee
or share a meal—
spread our words across the table
peel away their shells.
strip down,
prune, crop, pare
what remains
and talk
