Patterns

When does a pattern become a series of repetitions? When do repetitions become obsessive? Or do repetitions become a drone, a consistent hum begging for a break. This is an idle question triggered by watching someone doodle the same rhythmic pattern over an entire square sheet of paper. Then the thought mushroomed beyond the confines of the square to a larger social perspective. I imagined spending a day simply focused on the pursuit of survival—the drone of seeking something to eat only to go to sleep and do the same thing the following day.

How much anti-social behavior can be traced to the desire to break into a pattern?
